I’ve been thinking about using NaNoWriMo to finally finish my Indie Microblogging book, even though it’s not a novel. I wonder if we can do something special on Micro.blog for anyone writing in November. 📚

Phi.Sanders

Good idea. For your consideration : Separate emojis for writing versus reading 📝🖌📓

Bruce Steinberg

Maybe a separate/temporary emoji-tag for the month? 📝? Keep it permanently in the discover section and encourage people to post daily(?) updates? Perhaps also a pin?

Bruce Steinberg

@Manton “permanently” for the month, not for all time. :)

Manton Reece

@SciPhi Thanks. Definitely we are overdue for adding more pens and writing-related emoji.

Rosemary Orchard

Please do! I'll also be doing a rogue NaNoWriMo (not fiction) and having a community with whom to do it would be awesome :)

I wonder if I will ever finish the book I started during NaNoWriMo 2015.. 🙈

Manton Reece

@rosemaryorchard Great to hear!

Manton Reece

@Burk Good luck. I finished NaNoWriMo in 2005 but another year tried and couldn't stick with it, so I know how difficult it is to revisit something like that later.

Alex Armstrong

This sounds like a cool idea. I've been looking to engage more with Micro.blog and I'm currently drafting a novel I began in last year's NaNoWriMo. I plan to use this year's NaNoWriMo to sprint to the finish... of the first draft 😃

Art Kavanagh

@Burk I never do NaNoWriMo (too much like a forced march) but I was reminded yesterday of writing part of the novella that I'm currently posting (in parts) on Medium. I was writing it on a train in Italy — in 2009. And at that point, I thought it was a novel. Only recently I decided it would make a better novella and cut it from 49,000 words to about 21,000 which, I think, did it the world of good.

I’m doing NaNoWriMo again this year and it’d be great to have a Micro.blog support group. 😊

Manton Reece

@alehandrof Excellent, good luck!

Manton Reece

@cygnoir Great! Sounds like there's enough interest that we should definitely do something, even if it's just to collect NaNoWriMo posts together to make discovery easier. Maybe a special pin to unlock too.

Eddie Hinkle

I won’t be able to do NaNoWriMo this year (infants can do that to you. Haha!) but I’ve done it in years past and I think that’s a great idea. In a future year when I’m able to participate I think a discovery section and a pin would be awesome!

Martin McCallion

I’m in. I finished for the first time last year, though by completing a novel I'd been working on for years. This time I'll be starting from scratch.
