Last year I blogged about our roadmap to get a little distance from Apple in mobile development. The next major version of Micro.blog for iOS is coming along well, based on React Native. This week we open sourced the app! Feels good to get the source out there.

Great to see! I think open source apps make total sense for your business model. Are you looking for bug reports or test users?

Manton Reece

@esjewett We always welcome bug reports. Not really looking for anything specific right now, because we know there's still a lot of missing pieces before we officially ship 3.0 for iOS.

@manton how's Android coming along?

Manton Reece

@Eggfreckles Coming along well! Same code base as the new iOS version, so it'll mostly stay in sync for future updates.

@manton
Why did you choose react over (for example) flutter or native (SwiftUI)?

Manton Reece

@phisch I wanted something with mature support on Android. We also have more experience with JavaScript and React than Flutter, although I've heard good things about it.

phisch

@manton okay. Flutter is definitely worth checking out. Our company releas several very successful apps in the last two years with flutter. The performance is amazing and our Android and iOS teams can collaborate very well together. Scalability is great to, since we could easily port some apps or some parts of them to Mac OS, windows and the web.
