“I expect chaos.” — Me, writing in October just after Elon took control of Twitter.

One of my favorite things about blogging is looking back on what guidance might be hidden in old posts. Old blog posts are like a mission statement reality check. Yep, still on track.

Terence

As I do both myself, but much more one than the other, I’d like your point of view: in your opinion, what belongs to the blog, and what belongs only to the diary?

Ryan Booker

If anything, you undersold it. 🤣

Manton Reece

@ryanbooker Yes, it unraveled even faster than I could’ve predicted.

Manton Reece

@terence Personally, I use a private journal for stuff about family, or more everyday events that I don’t feel like sharing with the world. Eventually, my ideal system would have private posts automatically go public on my blog after 10 years, when it’s unlikely to be very sensitive or private anymore.

Terence

Thank you for this answer. Even though I don’t write anything exciting in my various journals, I am always reluctant to write publicly, not always seeing the point of offering my thoughts and opinions to the rest of the world. For the same reason, I have never been very active on social networks.
That’s why I’m on micro.blog, whose no like, no reblog, associated domain, rss and cross-post principles make it the best platform today in my opinion, for a very honest cost. The fact that it simplifies to the extreme the principle of blogging, at a time when Worpdress has become so complex, makes it unavoidable in my eyes.
However, being French, and therefore using two languages, I just regret that there is not a multilingual system implemented: of course, I can make categories, which is my method here.

Manton Reece

@terence Thanks! We do need to add better support for multiple languages.

Terence

That would be awesome!

Ça serait génial !

Scott Little

@terence I am curious how you want to see multi language support implemented (as a user and developer). Would you always want something like what you posted there, with both languages showing together one after the other? Would it just be to have a distinctive formatting for each? Or would it just be better ways to indicate that this post is in French and that one is in English, etc? Je suis curieux !
