I’m fascinated with Nostr, but I’m having trouble getting on board with it because its development is disjointed and the creator is (I think) anonymous. The team at Bluesky is writing about their work. They have a blog. Same with Mastodon. Just easier to get behind a public, cohesive vision.

I’ve been reading about Nostr and some of the projects built with it and agree it’s fascinating. I can’t help but compare Nostr to BlueSky and AP/Mastodon, and I’m not sure yet how that comparison shakes out.
So far, feels like BlueSky and Mastodon are more tightly around social networking/microblogging. While Nostr is more a protocol of real time transmission that you can built many types of apps on. But not sure this is a fair look.
I wonder if any of these will become polished enough that they are easier to use than say RSS. This has been on my mind since I found out some of my friends were surprised that I blog and seemed interesting in following it. I don’t post from my blog to any of the social networks we have in common…so aside from RSS there’s no good way for them to keep up with new posts.

@dfj I think that comparison is fair. Nostr seems well-suited to not just microblogging but direct messages and maybe file sharing. I think we’ll probably support it in some form.

In the iOS beta, long mastodon names still* make the UI move diagonally, (and it’s messing up my brain due to a mental deficit), when scrolling up/down. Could a symbol, or just the letters (AP) for ActivityPub after their local username (in the UI only) be something to pursue? That way, if other protocols are supported, other acronyms could be displayed.
*) Haven’t checked today.
UPDATE: They are clipped now.

Cool, I look forward to that!
I’m curious if Nostr will catch on for events or other ad-hoc groups that want to share posts. I could see it as a way to organize comments on a podcast episode or maybe even how people used hashtags on Twitter for conferences and other events.

@otaviocc My npub is: npub1ae42p0d24pmccr47unf2a3hv2trmk9lrmr65ges4v3x5pscs4yrquu7ul9. Good luck figuring out how to follow me! I think some apps allow pasting that into the search.

@vincent I will. Will there be a “longpress-copy-username” at some point too? To add to different services, like on Mastodon? (Sometimes I see Mastodon users on Micro.Blog that I’d like to follow on mastodon, mostly because of the long usernames. (On Mastodon they blend in)).
