Forgot the Stanley Hotel was nearby, the inspiration for the hotel in The Shining. Stopped for a little while, walked around, had a beer in the restaurant. I’m sure there’s lots of history here.

You didn’t try the maze?

@manton Where is this?

Manton Reece

@tsmyther Estes Park, Colorado. Here’s a bunch about the hotel on Wikipedia.

@manton Cool! Passed thru there just before the pandemic going up to Rocky Mtn NP, but did not know this place existed. Hope y’all are having fun. Loved the area in the early spring. Ran into some very chummy fauna.

An elk with a broken antler turning around to bump noses with a Colorado Jay that is sitting on his back. There is thin snow on the hill behind them, as well as another elk, grazing. The elks’ coats are shedding from winter to summer fur.

They used the Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood in Oregon for all of the exterior shots that show the Overlook.

@inthedeltawaves I figured that out yesterday while researching too… Turns out the Stanley was the inspiration for the book only (and used in the miniseries).
