Spilled beer on my laptop yesterday. Seemed fine, but this morning the trackpad isn’t very clicky. It’s an older Intel-based MacBook Pro… Really did not want to upgrade yet. 🍺

I remember they used to sell plastic keyboard covers for such events, but not for laptops I guess. Fingers crossed it’ll come around.

@manton If you really want to get your hands dirty you might be able to open up the case and get some acetone in there or something to clean it up. iFixit is great for those tutorials. Otherwise the ARM chips have been pretty stable... def some growing pains but in my experience developing on M1 for almost 2 years now they're mostly worked out.

@manton I thought @caseyliss made these mistakes so we didn’t have to…

@manton One of my most memorable Genius Bar moments was a couple that accidentally spilled an entire bottle of red wine into their iBook then poured most of it out the ports and drank it. (not sure how “accidentally” spill a full bottle of wine into a laptop).
The iBook still worked but they wanted someone to “take it apart and scrub each piece” because red wine curdles and they were afraid it would start to smell.
At least you’re not those people.

@SimonWoods Ha! To clarify, I'm not pro Meta. I'm pro open web. Being for open standards means supporting any company's right to be on the web, even if we don't like them. (It doesn't mean giving specific individuals a voice or amplification, but that's a separate issue.)

First coffee and now beer, someone really wants to upgrade after seeing the new laptops ☺️

@manton well, if you do upgrade… the new macbook airs really are pretty fantastic.
i just have the M1 and it’s plenty fast for development. for a real on-the-go mac for cafés the battery is simply amazing. hours and hours of xcode without needing a plug — even a couple years old.
the GPU feels a bit slow compared to my hackintosh — but it happily drives a 4K display — and with no fan — it’s kind of mind boggling.
