@manton the link still shows up in the RSS feed. Is that expected?

@letters We do have a Pinboard import, actually! When using Micro.blog Premium, there’s an import option under the “…” button on the Bookmarks page. For tags, yes, we need either tags or categories… I plan to work on that soon.

@paullenhardt It’s not in the feed, but once RSS clients cache it, nothing can be done. 🤷

I could do with a good tutorial on how to use this. Looking for one on Google was no help (it often isn’t these days). Have you seen one?

what did you use before? I’ve been a pinboard user for decade plus.

I’ve been using the bookmarks more here lately and I love having this built in. I’m starting to use it as my primary read later service.

Had a thought that it might be nice to have some sort of organization available. I can see a use case where I want to separate bookmarks that are intended as read later and bookmarks that will be used for research or composing blog posts.

@pimoore Long term. I don’t blog about most of the things I bookmark, at least not right away, but I’ve got them to read later or search highlights to find something.

@jthingelstad I used Pinboard and Instapaper before.

@billbennettnz I’ve been meaning to record a new video that walks through how the latest features work, because we changed a few things this year. Hope to get that done soon.

@ryanbooker I’m curious if you see the post in Mastodon on the web too, or maybe just cached in clients? It deleted for me in Mastodon.

Categories, tags, or folders would be amazing for bookmarks and media uploads.🙏🏻 I’m working on a whole separate project outside of Micro.blog specifically because there is zero way to keep track of images here.

@pimoore @donnydavis Being able to filter by whether I want to read something later or save it long-term would be huge. As it is, I tend to only use for read later/highlights and then unbookmark after I’ve read, which is less than ideal.

@KimberlyHirsh Agreed. I think even allowing a few simple categories here will make a big difference. For some people, it might just be similar to to-read / finished-reading bookshelves.

is it crazy to consider importing 14,000 bookmarks from Pinboard?

@jthingelstad Wow, that’s a lot! Should be okay, although I’d suggest importing a few hundred to start with as a test, if you can split it up. Also if you have tags in Pinboard, it might be better to wait until we have categories we could preserve during the import.

@letters Paperback looks nice. I think we need to go all-in with bookmark tags in Micro.blog, though, rather than depend on another service.
