First thoughts on Retro: great design and for me fills a similar role as BeReal. Not a true Instagram or photoblogging alternative because it’s focused more on private-ish photos. We don’t need another silo but in that niche they can get away with not being open.

now that it’s out, I agree even more with my first take– very Path-like in a good way, but I hope it doesn’t suffer a similar fate.

@jsonbecker I agree with that take. Path had some really nice touches to it. But how can you build a sustainable, VC-backed business with this idea? Not sure it’s possible.

my hope is that they don’t do a Series A. I don’t think this is a good fit for venture funding, though I can see it being a great business that can return on convertible debt well for early investors.

@vincent in that vein of photoblogging, when will the official micro.blog app and Gluon get access to the ‘Share to Apps’ functionality on Android? I would absolutely love to be able to take a photo, hit the share button and then post to micro.blog without having to use an intermediate service to get a url first and link to it on micro.blog.

@manton beautiful layout. Smart filtering of camera roll by timeframe. Love that there’s basically zero “discovery” of people (no public lists of follows/followers). Forces following relationships to stay intimate. “Keys” are a brilliant take on ephemeral photo sharing.
Don’t know if it’ll stick, but I think all of the features are extremely thoughtful and well-implemented.

@vincent when does Gluon get some love?? Still my favourite way to Micro.blog.
