Interesting news on GitHub for Mastodon search, noticed via @darnell@one.darnell.one. Full-text post search is coming, will be opt-in. Discoverability and search is a frequent topic on Micro.blog so I’ll be following this closely.
Against The Future I think I lean no on full-text search, but I don’t know. I have tried to use Mastodon like Twitter at times to see if people are talking about a topic, but then I wonder if I need to be doing that at all.
I could see it being good for disasters.
@manton @darnell This will be very interesting. I feel like this kind of feature could be the thing that changes the feel of Mastodon.
Not saying it will be negative, but different can be scary.
I'm also super concerned that meta will start pummeling PR's into GitHub - given the track record of Facebook, there will need to be a lot of thought around what changes they propose could have on the platform.
