Made a sort of impulsive purchase of a used car: 2008 Honda Element SC, for a mini camper. Full details, photos, build, and more to follow in a longer blog post when I have it in my hands and set up. “It doesn’t make any sense. That’s why I trust it."

@manton there was a time when Honda was trying to buy people’s Elements after they left production because they became popular … at least here in Vermont.

@scully Interesting. I’m discovering there is a pretty big fan base for these cars. It’s fun to see what people have done with them.

I’ve got a 2008 Element too and it’s still going strong. When I have to move on to an electric car in the hopefully far future it’ll be very bittersweet.

this might be trouble for me…I’ve always fancied having an Element

Nice. Sounds like they make a great build platform. If you haven’t heard already, there is a portmanteau: hotelement 😂

@manton My 2005(?) Element was orange and had a manual transmission. Great car. Enjoy!

@manton we looked really hard at getting one about back in their early days.
i’m still bitter that there is no VW microbus. but until there is, the element seems like a solid car camper solution.

@isaiah I think the upcoming VW Buzz has a lot of potential. I could see trying it in a few years depending on range, price, etc.

@Ddanielson I love the look of the old Westfalia, but that is way beyond my ability to maintain. 🙂

@Ddanielson There’s a guy around the block from me who buys old Westfalias and puts Subaru engines in them. He constantly has 4-5 of them in his driveway in varying states of disassembly.

Another option is JDM import vans like the Toyota HiAce, there's a cottage industry in the US now importing 25yo models from Japan these days.
