Just posted Core Intuition episode 571. From the show notes:

Daniel and Manton discuss Apple’s latest round of in-person and online “Apple Experts” events, the Apple Vision Pro sessions and whether the NDAs allude to anything exciting, and Daniel’s shoulder injury and worrying about getting older and being stuck in our ways as the technological world changes.

@manton @danielpunkass weirdly apropos core intuition this week as i dislocated my elbow (amongst other fun injuries) and it’s really killing productivity.

AND

i’m clearly a steam heat / obj-c plumber that can’t seem to bring himself to jump into the deep end of SwiftUI.

i know i should just dive in, but part of me thinks if i’m going to invest that much time learn brand new things, shouldn’t i focus on the web?

hope the shoulder feels better and the move went smoothly. 👋

@isaiah @manton sorry to hear about your elbow! I’m getting physical therapy now for my shoulder and it seems to be progressing well.

Manton Reece

@isaiah @danielpunkass I’m no expert at SwiftUI but I see a lot of people wasting time reimplementing basic things that are easy enough in Obj-C / UIKit. Maybe the bigger wins will come later. (Hope you feel better!)

@manton i do worry that i’m missing out on some. efficiencies that might come from the reactive/declarative/functional methodologies.

but it seems like it might be a few years before those efficiencies can be realized — especially in desktop apps. so i’m in no hurry to rewrite my codebase just yet.

i do hope they make it a bit easier to integrate old frameworks with the new hotness. it’s possible now, but feels pretty clunky.
