This post from @mia@void.rehab will ring true to anyone who has actually implemented an ActivityPub server. We talk about ActivityPub as if it’s a fully-formed spec, but it’s really a suite of specs, and trial and error. I’d love to see the specs streamlined without breaking compatibility.
Ben Ubois @manton I gave up on even consuming ActivityPub. It’s an ambitious idea, but wow is it ever complex, verbose, abstract and under defined. It also feels like the wrong abstraction for micropost-like things. JSON Feed and Micropub are much more ergonomic.
Manton Reece @benubois Agreed. Being so verbose really does have a cost, too, making it harder to understand and debug. I feel like my implementation is always fighting to have only the bare minimum of required fields.
