I can make recommendations if what you're looking for is the "weird route" like @gilest is talking about. There is so much wonderful to see just off I-5, one side or the other.

I work about an hour from my home. I often use both google maps and Apple Maps to just see what time I’ll arrive at work with traffic. As I get closer to work it gets very rural. Google maps always try’s to get me to go down roads that would theoretically save a minute or two, but no person should ever drive down. Especially in the winter. Some are gravel or barely drivable. It’s crazy.

I hear that. I've always wanted a "minimize turns" option...
