Good news from Bluesky that a public web interface is coming this month. They’ve had a “staging” web app, but it required signing in. Also:

As a reminder, Bluesky is a public social network, so your posts, likes, etc. have always been publicly accessible through the API. We designed Bluesky with the openness of the internet in mind, and you can think of your profile as a blog on the internet.

In the future, it will be easier to have actual blogs that seamlessly act as ActivityPub and AT Protocol profiles. We’re halfway there with Micro.blog already.

@manton I keep being on the fence with the distinction between my blog (with RSS) and ActivityPub, where I'll just post links when I make an entry.

micro.blog sure makes a strong case for it, though, and I guess ActivityPub could be like WebMention with existing traction.

@jesse Some flexibility is good, because not everyone is going to want the same thing for their posts. Personally, I’m a big believer in a domain name as the basis for the web identity across platforms. Just simpler for it to all be automatic.

Jarrod Blundy

Are you thinking blog as both ActivityPub and AT Protocol together, not one or the other? And not through cross posting like Bluesky is now?

Manton Reece

@jarrod I’m still in the “wait and see” approach to Bluesky, but yes, in theory Micro.blog would fully federate with Bluesky via AT Proto, with cross-posting just as an option if someone wants to maintain separate accounts.

Adam Tinworth

I’m enjoying watching micro.blog become an example of what Federation could be: not either/or but both/and.

(In terms of protocols, at least)

Manton Reece

@adders Thanks! I think “both/and” works for us. I’m opinionated about a lot of things, but we should err on the side of more connectivity / openness.

Jarrod Blundy

Cool!
