@manton I guess there was an opening for a blue-creature-with-wings logo, eh? Much better than the previous branding.

@vladcampos The impression I got was two things: 1) they started before Twitter imploded and Mastodon really took off; and 2) they think their protocol is better in a couple ways that matter. I tend to agree with them that it’s okay to have multiple protocols right now… It’s early days for the social web.

@moonmehta Good question. I probably should have. I guess it felt like “this should be a text file”… But of course Micro.blog is perfectly capable of hosting that too.

@manton I also considered that, but what comes to mind is the nonsense war between #Microsoft (#IE) and #Netscape. It's pretty sad to recall that for a considerable period of time, one needed a particular web browser to access certain websites. Crazy times! And @w3c was already around.
