Tim Sweeney reacts to Apple’s new linking rules (Twitter X):

Epic will contest Apple’s bad-faith compliance plan in District Court.

I’ve said before that for devs who want to see the App Store’s payment rules change, Epic was an imperfect champion, but they’re who we’ve got. Glad to see Tim keep pressing this.

@callionica Agreed. It puts in writing a sort of “Apple is good, small developers can’t be trusted” attitude.

@jimmylittle Fortnite is just a game, one of many thousands. The App Store is the only way to distribute apps for the iPhone. It’s really not comparable in my view.

@manton I can’t stand DHH but I’m also glad to see more steps taken to fight this — Apple’s behavior comes off as plain old rent seeking.

Manton Reece

@cory Yep, DHH is totally right on this one.

Cory :prami_pride_demi:

@manton I don’t like admitting it, but I’ll absolutely concede it on this one 😅

@mikehaynes @jimmylittle The scale is wildly different, though. Imagine if Fortnite went away tomorrow. Bummer, but there are many other game platforms. Lots of choice. If the iPhone went away, it would be disastrous. It’s many people’s primary computing platform and that should carry with it an expectation of at least some openness.
