Getting great feedback about the new recommendations feature in Micro.blog. I’ve made a couple more improvements this morning. Blogrolls were a sort of early social graph, and they’re still useful today! There’s a joy in discovering new blogs that goes beyond the blandness of large platforms.

@manton The web itself is the social network — and blogrolls (links!) are a key part. Love to see it.

now bring back FOAF! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FOAF

@manton

Are you going to argue for bringing back web rings next?

What's old is new again. From my blog February 1, 2001 - a blog roll down the left side. https://crabapples.net/rob/archive/20010128_default.htm

@ChiaChatter @manton I had no idea feedland was a thing! We used to have something like this back in 2009 or so,.

Without all the technology developed by social media companies and browser vendors the indieweb would be less powerfull. Still, old ideas never go away, they're just reserved for possible future use. And, , you're definitely on a roll!

Congrats! I too have some feedback of course ☺️ wondering if on profiles, the link should say ‘Recommends X blogs’ instead of ‘Recommended X blogs’. Currently ‘Following X users you are not following’ is present tense, but the new link uses past tense, which feels incongruous.

@paulrobertlloyd That bugs me too, and I tried a few spellings before settling on it. The most consistent seemed like "Recommending" but that is long and awkward. "Recommends" could work!

@manton Baby blogger that I am, my hear swelled with pride today when a writer I admire added me to his blogroll. Life is good!

Hi, Manton. I noticed that my blogroll with commas in the name isn't showing up on my Blogroll page, while my default "Recommendations" blogroll is. I specifically embedded it, and I've checked to make sure I'm using the right name. Should I be removing the commas?
