Hot take on so-called white-collar crime, like the Sam Bankman-Fried sentence: 25 years is too long. I also thought Elizabeth Holmes was unfairly sentenced. Everyone wants a villain but real life isn’t that simple.
the amount of harm he did is absolutely commensurate with 25 years
and she got off light considering the harm she did to actual human patients

I dunno, I might be wrong. But 25 years is a really long time to spend in jail. I'm not sure what is achieved by it. To be clear, in both cases I think some number of years is definitely justified.

@manton Ill go with that if you’ll also agree that sentencing for crimes affecting poor people is also too punitive.

I dunno. I feel like it's the only way to try to stop all the grifting and outright theft of people's money. What's 5 years in prison if you can somehow pass 10 million dollars to friends and family?

@iChris For sure, 5 years feels too short. I don't know what the right sentence is, just not convinced about 25 years.

I disagree. His actions were intentional and did enormous damage people. And I believe he is remorseless and will do it again. After all, he is one of the smartest guys around...just ask him.
