Watching this video on Twitter X of Elon Musk talking about multiplanetary human life… Makes me sad all over again that he ever bought Twitter. Not just for all the tech and social reasons, but also because of the distraction away from the mission of SpaceX, and related brand erosion.

Michael Gemar

@manton I agree with the brand erosion, but given what happened to Twitter when he gave it his full attention, SpaceX is likely much better off with Shotwell (and Gerstenmaier) running the show.

Marcos D. Alves

@manton Musk decided to start a war against Brazilian justice, attacking the ministers of our supreme court. X will not last long in Brazil.

Ryan Lounsbury

@manton Musk being distracted from SpaceX is probably a good thing for SpaceX.

Gavin Chait;

@manton isn't it better for everyone to know he is a white supremacist? It's not like he doesn't run Tesla or SpaceX in the same way, or that those projects aren't also expressions of his bigotry.

Erwin

@manton Beyond brand erosion, the way Musk revealed himself to the world killed any semblance of trust in him any thinking person could have. Thinking people is what a nascent Mars colony would need, and which of them is going to trust Musk with their lives (especially given the lies about Tesla FSD and other unaddressed safety issues)? He killed that dream and ambition himself, which tells me he either wasn’t really serious about it or not smart enough to see the long term consequences of his actions.

If SpaceX ever hopes to establish a Mars presence, it would have to be long after Musk is gone and his influence erased. (2/2)
