Dauphine St. Books. 📚

Books piled everywhere in the French Quarter.

aaaah…. lovely sight. And look at the wrought iron balcony across the street! Got me thinking about the probably long-extinct Garner and Smith bookstore in Austin, mostly because of the bookstore cat; an expansive black and white fellow who loved to sprawl on the (VERY limited) counter space next to the cash register. Does Dauphine St. have a cat?

Goblin Gumbo

Aw man, I’ve been wanting to check them out, but I never get across the river any more. Looks like a great place!

@annahavron No cat. There were so many books everywhere, I’m not sure a cat would have a place to sit. Except on books. 🙂

Simon Woods

@annahavron You say that like they wouldn’t 😂

Grant Hutchinson

@manton I can smell this photo and it makes me happy.

Anna Havron

@SimonWoods I begin to wonder if the uneven heights of the book piles in the photo are meant to discourage large, sprawly cats?

Anna Havron

@annahavron otoh i do see a nice little sunny nook right by the window pane for a smaller cat

Jesse Kelber

@splorp Exactly my first thought! Despite my sensitivities around smells, old books not only don’t bother me, I find the aroma extremely cathartic.
