Now we wait for the jury. Thinking about how I will react to the verdict… Clearly there is evidence to convict Trump. But the jury could second-guess their judgement because he’s a former president. The trial was fair and thorough. Whatever those dozen New Yorkers decide, we have to be good with. 🇺🇸
David Lynch @manton I honestly find it really annoying how many news takes I see saying approximately “but is this enough to justify convicting a former president?” The implicit acceptance of a two-tiered system of justice, where of course the rich and powerful should be treated gently, while the poor don’t get any of this consideration is galling.
Manton Reece @kemayo Yes, he should absolutely not get special treatment, but I think it might be hard for people to really objectively look at it. Guess we’ll find out soon.
David Lynch @manton Yeah, I do agree that it’s difficult. It’s really the unquestioning acceptance of the special treatment that bugs me. (Alongside Trump himself complaining that he’s being given particularly unfair treatment, when anyone who *wasn’t* a former President would have been treated so very much worse by the system already.)
