When driving directions in maps lets you know there’s a much slower route available, every once in a while you should take it.

Absolutely agree, just blogged about that recently. Give me the squiggliest route there, or the road that meanders next to a river, or the one that passes by the historic downtown square—even if those routes are slightly longer.
@manton yup. Apple Maps saved my butt by sending me a slightly longer route to a less busy border crossing. Was a slow relaxing way on country roads and I was an hour earlier than had I taken the other route.
I know this because we lapped friends who left 45 mins before us and took the other route.
