Bad Boys opens with $21 million box office Friday, on track for $50 million for the weekend. I’ve been curious about whether Will Smith gets a second chance. No legal charge was filed at the Oscars, so the punishment was a 10-year Academy ban, which we’re a couple years into. Sometimes we don’t forgive even after someone has served the time, and I think that’s problematic.
Jeff C. 🇺🇦 @manton I’m less concerned about The Slap™ than what it might suggest about his behavior behind closed doors. That was a remarkably bad example of poor impulse control and I worry about who else might be subjected to it.
That said… I agree. I don’t know what Smith’s “redemption arc” should look like, but — in isolated — I think that there probably should be one.
Again, assuming that it was a one-off. If it’s a pattern, that’s another thing entirely.
Manton Reece @jeff Yeah, I think that’s part of what made it such a shock, how did that happen? There’s also a kind of tragedy to it, what should’ve been the pinnacle of his career was the lowest point.
