The New York Times, The Washington Post, and other major news outlets should scrap their opinion sections. There are more than enough places on the web to hear what people think. Cable news is already overrun with non-news. Let’s refocus on reporting, not influencing.
Bill Bennett I get this and, on one level don’t disagree. But there’s a level where comment and opinion pieces in mainstream newspapers are powerful and useful: when they explain and analyse events, putting things in a wider context.
I’m a journalist and I do this kind of work a lot. It’s not all bad.
