Joe Biden in a written statement today:

Not the press, not the pundits, not the big donors, not any selected group of individuals, no matter how well intentioned. The voters - and the voters alone - decide the nominee of the Democratic Party. How can we stand for democracy in our nation if we ignore it in our own party? I cannot do that.

If Biden is having trouble communicating on television, maybe he should write more. Seriously. If we want a reality TV star for president, there’s the other guy. 🇺🇸

@manton I’d vote for a ham sandwich over the other guy, to be sure. But for how long have Biden’s aides been lying to us about Joe’s decline? Maybe if we had known all the facts during the primary process and if the DNC hadn’t stacked the deck against even the discussion of an alternative, voters might have chosen differently.

Jacob Hazelgrove

@manton I think part of it is that the people who need to be swayed, might not have the confidence that Biden is actually writing the statements. Just like I don't believe Trump has written a damn thing unless it contains his signature word salad.

Manton Reece

@mikestanley Maybe. I wouldn’t go as far as accusing his aids of lying, but I get your point.

Dispatches From The Empire

Yet where was the Democratic primary?

I sympathize, but “read his writing instead” (presuming he wrote this) is just not a salient argument. You can’t expect people to ignore what they saw on video and instead heed the written word, which is inherently more abstract. Basic neurology.

@gurupanguji

@manton like you, I appreciate the written word and I do want to encourage more presidents doing long form writing of what they think. That said, attributing this to Biden must be an exercise in caution. We can give him credit to approve this and stand by it. But, that he wrote it is a leap of faith.

@manton His aides arranged his first interview after the debate with a radio host and they supplied the questions she asked. I’m not willing to give them the benefit of the doubt at this point. ☹️ apple.news/AzTvSLIh_QY-cNZIRnr
