Great post from Cory Doctorow on using RSS:

Using RSS is a chance to visit a utopian future in which the platforms have no power, and all power is vested in publishers, who get to decide what to publish, and in readers, who have total control over what they read and how, without leaking any personal information through the simple act of reading.

It’s weird that we still have to tell people about RSS in 2024, but that’s just how it is.

I'm eagerly awaiting when we take the next step towards the future (maybe the last) where thanks to new open protocols and APIs (not crypto) we can get publishers paid directly and automatically via donations from readers, watchers and listeners in amounts that satisfy everyone and preserves the open access nature of the web without the influence and abuse of advertisers. until then, publishers doing the right thing will always fear they are being taken advantage of.

@manton On one hand, I agree that it is "weird" to have to tell people about RSS. On the other, RSS takes some work and understanding.

I use RSS every day (and have for years). The ability to curate my own Comics "Section" of news is a game changer for me.

Oh, and not being involved in Facebook or another billionaire's view doesn't hurt either.
