Decided today was a good day to burn the old home page to the ground and start over, for users who aren’t signed in. Embracing minimalism, calm, whimsy. Still a few things to improve… Let’s see where this goes.

It’s a really great start. I like the whimsy and minimalism, but personally I think the brand needs to be more prominent somehow. But how to do it, I couldn’t say. Yet.

@rscottjones We’ll find out soon enough! 🙂 But yes, I agree… I’ll keep iterating on this to find the right balance.

Very pretty! I agree with @rscottjones that I would need more to click the Sign Up button. But I might be intrigued enough for a Learn More button.

been reading you for awhile on netNewsWire and although I’m not sure that I have anything worth saying I thought I’d join up and give you some money :-)

@manton.org It is great! The testimonials are amazing! Congratulations!

@markstoneman I’ll work on that. Really squished on any phone right now.

I’ve always liked the quotes. Have you thought about adding many more?

Woah, 180 degree turn! That is minimalistic… but personally, I would prefer more insights..

@manton @rscottjones I agree with Scott -- people likely won't decide to build their home on micro.blog based on testimonials by people they don't know. They’ll likely come to the site a few times before they sign up.

@SimonWoods I’d love to add more! Anyone is free to send a few my way and we can eventually rotate through them.

@markstoneman Oh, the link doesn’t work well in the native apps, ironically. You’ll have to load on the web.

@Sam Possibly. It’s not clear if anyone even reads the old text. It’s all word of mouth anyway.

Nice. How about an iFrame with a view into the “Discover” stream to help people know what it looks like?

@manton maybe I am just reflecting my own experience. I’m curious to see how this plays out, and hope you are right.

That's a huge hurdle that most people won't take. I wouldn't go through (presumably) multiple steps just to find out this was not for me.
I think the "Tell me more..." or, at least, "About" button is the bare minimum.
The merits of POSSE and Fediverse in general, and micro.blog in particular, are compelling, but you'll need to explain the basics if you want to pique people's interest.

Manton, I’ve realised that I have nothing to say, so I’m going to say goodbye.
Love what you’re doing. Richard
