Skimming Steve Troughton-Smith’s thread and commentary on the EU’s requirements for Apple. Even though I’ve been frustrated by the App Store and calling for sideloading longer than most developers, I’m feeling burned out on the drama. Huge computing platforms need to be more open. We’ll get there.

I think it is totally reasonable for Apple to decide what can be installed on their iPhones.

Once they sell them the new owner should get to decide.

it’s really frustrating that the EC had to take things this far. But it’s totally understandable. It reminds me of having to o legislate expectations to children. “No you may not hit your sibling with your fist, a stick, your toys, a book….etc”

@radmakr.com But phones are not computers. People buy them because they are not computers. People enjoy using them because they are not computers. Apple dropped the word Computers from their name because most of what they would be selling in the future would not be computers.

Duncan Moran

Why? Why do they need to be more open?

@Gentry That's a really interesting comparison actually!
