Micro.one was effectively a soft-launch yesterday, havenโ€™t officially announced it yet. I learned a few things. Making some tweaks today. Dialing back the custom themes support so that remains a unique part of Micro.blog.

@manton awesome

Pratik

Good decision.

I'm interested but need some more information. Your video on the site was taken down?

Aziz Poonawalla ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿ•โ˜•๐Ÿšฒโ˜ช๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‘

My interest is more from the pov of a cross post tool to bsky/Masto etc.

Manton Reece

@azizforamerica.com I had to edit the video. A new one is up now!

Numeric Citizen

great decision which helps brings clarity in your offering.

Manton Reece

@numericcitizen Thanks. I will probably find other ways to make Micro.blog stand out as a good option for people. I still think of Micro.blog as the standard account that most people should have, and Micro.one as a great place to get started (and good enough for some people on its own too).

David Sinclair

using a custom domain feels like a premium feature that should be reserved for the main product.

Aeryn

I just saw the video on YouTube, looks good

Eric Gregorich

I hope this is successful for you. You deserve it. I thought $5 was a great deal, the $1 price point is insane. People on social platforms need to be educated about the advantages of posting to their own blog and syndicating elsewhere. At this price, there is no excuse to not get started.

Rob Fahrni

@dejus I had this same thought.

minor note - from micro.one/about/fedive... - it seems to imply from URL that fediverse/bsky support is part of micro.one, but it is actually the next tier, micro.blog, correct?

Pratik

@dejus I started typing a response but decided it would rather be a post about Micro. One

Andy Nicolaides

whilst the change does make sense, it was not called a โ€˜soft launchโ€™ so changing features for people that have signed up is a little cheeky IMO. I think you should personally stop taking sign ups until youโ€™ve decided on the features so people know what theyโ€™re signing up for. Again, I do agree and understand the cost is extremely low so some things should be lost, but itโ€™s not a good user experience to lose them without notice after signing up.

Jamie Thingelstad

Congrats (nearly) on this milestone. I appreciate how you are focusing on many aspects of "modern" blogging, including making it very affordable and simple with micro.one. Removing barriers from publishing on your own domain is good for the web, good for people, and good for society!

Chris Enns

From a "I've read the titles of articles on marketing but only know enough to be dangerous" brain, I'm curious why you wouldn't embed the YouTube video on the page, rather than send someone off to YouTube to watch it?

Jamie Thingelstad

if you have any suggestions how existing micro.blog customers (fans?) can support the successful launch of micro.one please share. I know I and many others would be happy to help spread the wordโ€ฆ

Aziz Poonawalla ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿ•โ˜•๐Ÿšฒโ˜ช๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‘

doing my part to promote :)

I'd like to chat a bit about my use case (as defined below) - can we connect offline? My DMs are open

Jarrod Blundy

Seems like a good choice in the long run. You can always add layer, but removing stuff is tricky. Good luck on the rest of the launch!

Cooper

@jthingelstad I did see there was the option to gift a year of micro.one to friends or family. $10 a year, support micro.one/blog and get more of your friends on the platform. Wins all around!

Jamie Thingelstad

@cooperbike Yeah โ€” I've been thinking through my friends and family who might want a blog. I've already converted most of them that are open to itโ€ฆ but worth continued examining. ๐Ÿ˜€

Manton Reece

@andynico Good feedback. I can re-enable the feature for anyone who signed up yesterday before the change. I wish I had everything figured out beforehand, but sometimes it's hard to tell until it's actually in users' hands.

Manton Reece

@iChris I just ran out of HTML tinkering time. I agree it should be embedded (and preferably not use YouTube at all).

Manton Reece

@aeryn Thanks!

Pratik

@dejus Posted (see toward the end).

Jarrod Blundy

Classy, and flexible. Good on you!

Manton Reece

@cooperbike @jthingelstad Thanks! I hope people take advantage of the $10 gift subscription. A full year is a lot of time for someone to settle into blogging and see how they like having their own site, especially for new folks. (Invite link is on the help page.)

Andy Nicolaides

Yeah, fully understand that! I know you have your hands full with the new launch, and itโ€™s easy to look back (or in as an outsider) with โ€˜shouldaโ€™ / โ€˜couldaโ€™.

Lee Perry

@manton that feels a sensible differentiator for one vs blog - will custom css remain available in micro.one?

Manton Reece

@lee Thanks. Yes, custom CSS is still available.
