Depressing. So happy that places like micro.blog and the wider distributed social web exist and would appear to be thriving.

Musk and Zuckerberg moved to the Bay Area California to avail themselves of the cultural foundation that enabled world changing tech. But don’t like that you are also supposed to put a flower in your hair there, and maybe pay it forward for all the innovations you reaped from the fertile soil.

As Nilay Patel said, the actual product they provide with an algorithm is their moderation, and they’re going with a “hands off the wheel approach”. Fuck that, and fuck him.

I'm more and more convinced everyday, that these tech bros are not even humans anymore, replaced by the same AI bot with slightly different online personalities and avatar.

Have historically given Meta a wide berth. Their attempt to claim the moral high ground seems bizarre.

@manton As a Swede and thereby also European by automatic extension, I cannot believe my eyes and ears when I hear news like this. It only reaffirms my suspicion that Meta services were never my thing. To be honest, I almost signed up for an account at Facebook back in 2008 but I postponed my decision. Never been happier about that decision.

@pratik I'm sure you know I would rather burn my company to the ground and move all the servers to Europe before I will give a penny to the inauguration fund. 🤠

@z428 I’m in the same boat. But I’ve turned off all notifications save for comments, and followed everyone I can here. I never go to the app except to the reply to a comment.

You could move bunch of servers here no matter what, we have some great places for that here in Finland (and in our lovely neighbouring countries, Sweden and Norway, too!) 😁💪
