@ddanielson You should be ashamed of yourself for that post. You have no idea how much shit Manton has gone through when the mob decided to go after him. Manton is a great human being and has built an incredible space and community.

This is a crazy time for circular firing squads. I’m truly sorry this affected your emotional well-being, but from what I’ve gleaned I hope you move on. You know who you are and what you stand for. Mobs of any stripe are antithetical to ideas and open discourse. They’re kind of proving the point.

I’m with you to the end, but the Committee for Public Safety seems to be speaking pretty loudly. There are so many quotes from Robespierre to choose, but I think “pity is treason” pretty much sums the moment.

These things are probably unavoidable, especially right now with everyone deep in their feels and unable or unwilling to make distinctions. The beauty of your platform, though, is that peoples’ moving on doesn’t mean a rupture of social connections because these are largely platform independent anyway, except where people elect to keep their MB account disconnected from the Fediverse. None of it feels good, but you can look at all of this as a proof of concept. Conflict wasn’t avoided, of course, because we’re human, but MB is proving resilient, I believe.

@markstoneman The community seems to be showing some resilience, although apparently the storm hasn’t blown over yet. But unless he chooses to share that information with us, we don’t know how much of a financial hit Micro and might have taken.

I’m inspired by your willingness to be open publicly in a way that is authentic and not self serving. Even if you may be paying the price for that openness this week, it will pass, and your long record of kindheartedness will win out. Hang in there.
