Dave Winer writes about links on the social web:
Support for links is the basic requirement of the web, the same way we say feeds are required to be a podcast. If you don’t support links not only aren’t you the web, you’re anti-web.

🤷♂️ it is on the list of reasons not to renew my micro.blog subscription as it constantly breaks the web.
@Dunk Can you explain more about what you mean? We’re one of the only social networks that actually support inline links. Do you mean when a post is truncated?
The web is already a pipe dream, half of the world population has no access to it, at all, and parts are hidden by local authorities for political and/or economical reasons. And don’t get me started on the border gateway protocol. So yes, if you happen to live in a privileged area, web’s 🔝
I mean if you are telling me about an app or band or beach put a link to it. For example. It may well be that such anti-web habits have been formed on lesser social networks. Highlighting some text and selecting Search Web from the pop up thingy is not too arduous but it is another dead end post which breaks the web.
