Rest in peace, Val Kilmer. Glad he was able to reprise his role from Top Gun, in a way getting the thanks and goodbye he deserved before he passed. His part in Heat will always be my favorite.

Real Genius has been one of my all time favorite comedies since I first saw it in the theater upon release in 1985. Up there with Better Off Dead. Kilmer’s Chris Knight is a fantastic character and the entire cast was perfection. I’m feeling the need for a Kilmer Film Fest.

I think his turn as Jim Morrison in The Doors is underrated.

He was a method actor. Word is he actually wen’t so deep into being Morrison, living as him full time, it almost killed him. Oliver Stone knew this about Val and he had several sit downs pre-filming about the problems it would cause. And, just like Morrison would have, he did it anyway.

Also, all the signing in the film (and on the soundtrack) is Val… I dare anyone to play the original with that version side by side and tell me which was which.

An amazing actor who will be missed.

@manton my favorite memory of Val Kilmer's work was a different movie that began with the word "Top".

Aas a kid we had a Betamax and not a lot of videos. Top Secret was one of the movies we did have and it was a family favorite. I remember by parents laughing their asses off to that movie every time they put it on.

I had no idea that Val Kilmer was the lead role in that movie until just recently! I might need to rewatch that movie soon.

@patrickrhone I’d love to watch the Doors again. It has been forever.

@sysop408 @manton 😂 Also did you know Top Secret was his first film role ever? So funny to start as a total goofball but not get pigeonholed as such.

Maybe it’s time for some early Kilmas on the Incomparable Mothership 🎄
